It started with a table full of friends.
I've always been someone who loves hosting and bringing people together. I'm pretty much always looking for a reason to get everyone in the same room. When I started playing mahjong, I loved it and naturally wanted more people to play with. So I hosted a beginner class—and that's really where the idea for One Bam started.
After that first class, I realized just how many people were interested in mahjong but didn't really know where to start. I wanted to create a way to learn that felt approachable, social, and fun, while also building a community that gets a whole new generation excited about the game.
One of the things I love most about mahjong is that it's been bringing people together for generations. My grandmother loved the game, and I think it's so special that you can sit down and play with your best friend, your mom, or your grandma and everyone can have fun together. There aren't many things that have that kind of staying power or bring different generations together in the same way.
That's really what I want One Bam to be—a fun, welcoming community that introduces more people to mahjong and gives them a place to learn, connect, and play. At the end of the day, it's about having fun, bringing people together, and making sure you always have someone to play with.

There’s something special about the One Bam. When the tile is discarded, everyone at the table cheers their glasses—a small tradition that captures exactly what I love about mahjong. It’s more than the game itself. It’s gathering around a table, sharing a cocktail, having some good laughs, and playing mahj. That little tradition felt like the perfect representation of what I wanted One Bam to be—a community built around having fun and bringing people together.
